Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument Visitor Use Study

Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument (BICR) was created in 2017 by presidential proclamation to commemorate, preserve, and interpret the dramatic events and struggle for human and civil rights played out in Birmingham in the 1950s and 1960s. BICR contains a collection of buildings and places that stand as a reminder of the violent opposition to integration. These places became a battleground for freedom during nonviolent protests that came to a head in 1963 and directly influenced the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Blue Mesa Reservoir is the largest body of water in Colorado and is well-known for salmon and trout fishing. Immediately East of Blue Mesa Reservoir is a flowing section of the Gunnison River, which also offers outstanding opportunities for fishing, including wading and boat fishing.

Identifying visitor services and opportunities to inform the application of the National Park Service Intermountain Region’s Tourism Toolkit

Visitation to units of the National Park System has grown in recent decades, but this growth has been uneven. In some cases, park units have seen stalled or declining visitor use or are in a position where they are looking to grow their visitation. The Tourism Toolkit – developed in the Intermountain Region - is a first-of-its-kind effort in the NPS that aims to engage tourism networks and tourists.

Molecular Tools for Management of Threatened and Endangered Species

The government seeks research and technical support for the development and demonstration of molecular tools to assess at-risk species occurrence, genomics, and disease risk on military installations from which samples were collected (Fort McCoy, WI, and Camp Grayling, MI). Exact analyses conducted and the need for additional sample collection will be decided based upon input from installation, ERDC-CERL, and CESU partners. It is anticipated that results from these analyses will be relevant for management throughout the focal species ranges.
